Introduction

Hello! My name is John Clancy. I am a senior in petroleum engineering and work as a aviation mechanic. I enjoy spending my spare time in the outdoors. Flying is a huge passion of mine, because it allows me to see truly untamed areas of Alaska.

I do not have much of a preference in art. I do appreciate nature and landscape scenes. I also like art that stirs some kind of emotion in me, through that happens very rarely and I have not yet been able to put a label on a style that does that. One thing I have realized is that I have to see it in person. I cannot get any feeling from a picture of artwork. I do not draw, paint or sculpt anything because I am not very artistic in that sense. My only involvement in artwork is through photography, which I really enjoy. I recently got a decent DSLR camera and have been only using it in manual mode. I do appreciate art museums but not so much modern art. I do have a couple pieces of my framed photography, but I do not own any traditional art.

Here is a link to some pretty decent nature scene art that looks decent. https://pixels.com/featured/4-beauty-of-nature-vladimir-misyts.html

  1. Welcome to the class John and thanks for the introduction. I really appreciated how the texture increases at the bottom of the painting you included in your post.

  2. Nice to meet you John. I also enjoy nature scenes and do not have much experience with art. I do like to draw but I am not that good. Hope to learn more about you.

  3. Hi John! I also have a love for photography and maybe you will have the opportunity to share some of yours with the class in the future. I like the picture you chose as well, nature scenes are one of my favorites to look at and also create when I have the time but I would have to say that it is much easier to take pictures of it than to paint it. I look forward to seeing more from you!

  4. Hi John! I also enjoy nature scenes and would agree that seeing the artwork in person or the scenes in person really help to add emotion or feeling to a piece. I really enjoyed the picture you chose. Best of luck in this class!
